Biography

Prof. Roland Fischer specializes in inorganic metal-organic chemistry, focusing on the development of multifunctional supramolecular materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and intermetalloid clusters. He completed his chemistry studies at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and received his doctorate in 1989 under the supervision of Prof. Wolfgang Herrmann. Following his doctoral studies, he engaged in postdoctoral research at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1990. He habilitated at TUM in 1995 and subsequently held a professorship at the University of Heidelberg from 1996 to 1997 and at Ruhr University Bochum from 1997 to 2015. Since 2016, he has held the Chair of Inorganic Organometallic Chemistry at TUM. Prof. Fischer served as the Academic Director of the Central Institute for Catalysis Research in 2018 and as Vice President of the German Research Foundation from 2016 to 2021. His research has significant implications for chemical energy storage and conversion, catalysis, sensor technology, and photonics.
