Biography

Professor Roland M. Schmid's research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of pancreatic carcinogenesis and translating these findings into diagnostic and therapeutic concepts. He utilizes transgenic knock-in mouse models to identify and validate genetic alterations significant for carcinogenesis and tumor maintenance. He completed his medical studies at the University of Ulm and earned his doctorate in 1987, later serving as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan Medical School from 1989 to 1993. In 1995, he obtained a postdoctoral teaching qualification from the University of Ulm and was appointed Chair at the Technical University of Munich in 2002, where he also became the director of the II. Medical Clinic Policlinic at Klinikum rechts der Isar. Professor Schmid is a member of the advisory board for the German Cancer Aid and has served on the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals. He was the Vice Dean from 2007 to 2010 and the spokesperson for the collaborative research center SFB 1321 'Modelling Targeting Pancreatic Cancer' from 2018 to 2023.
