Biography

Rolf Dollevoet graduated as a tribologist with a focus on Drive and Tribology combined with measurement and control technology at Eindhoven University of Technology. After graduation, he continued his MSc research at Bosch Rexroth Hydraudyne BV, tasked with bringing innovation to production and establishing a fully operational R&D test department. In 2003, he transitioned to the rail sector, working at ProRail BV as a 'system specialist in rail.' His successful RCF research led to practical maintenance concepts for the railway. Starting in 2007, he initiated a part-time PhD project at the University of Twente, sponsored by ProRail BV. He obtained his PhD in October 2010, focusing on optimal wheel/rail geometry, which resulted in a 50 million euro reduction in maintenance costs annually for ProRail BV. In 2012, he was appointed part-time full professor and section leader in Railway Engineering at TU Delft while continuing his role at ProRail BV as a 'system expert in rail.' He coordinates fundamental research and innovation projects in collaboration with the rail sector and has 20 years of experience mentoring BSc and MSc students and 15 years with several PhD students. Dollevoet aims to establish a comprehensive MSc Railway Engineering program at TU Delft, having made online education initiatives a reality since 2015. His expertise includes Railways, Railway Tracks, Wheels Monitoring, Acceleration, Trains Interactions, and Measurement.
