Biography

Romain Barrès is a Professor and Group Leader at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) at the University of Copenhagen. He completed his Bachelor in Physiology at the University of Toulouse in France and later obtained a Master's and PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Nice Côte d’Azur. He conducted postdoctoral studies at the Karolinska Institutet under Professor Juleen Zierath and subsequently worked as a lecturer at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. In 2010, he joined CBMR to establish the Environmental Epigenetics lab. His research focuses on understanding how lifestyle factors affect the risk of developing metabolic disorders and how these factors can influence the epigenetic content of metabolic cells across generations. Barrès leads the Gametic Epigenetic Consortium Obesity (GECKO), collaborates with various research entities, and has authored numerous publications in the field. He is also recognized for his contributions as an Associate Editor for 'Frontiers in Endocrinology' and as a member of the Editorial Board for 'Environmental Epigenetics.' He has received the Helmholtz Young Investigator Diabetes Award (HeIDI) and is involved in leadership training for scientists through hfp-consulting. Barrès' work is pivotal in addressing the role of epigenetic inheritance in health and disease, utilizing genomic approaches and advanced models in his research.
