Biography

Roman Frigg is a professor of Philosophy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of London and master's degrees in both theoretical physics and philosophy from the University of Basel, Switzerland. His research interests lie at the intersection of general philosophy of science and philosophy of physics, with published papers covering topics such as climate change, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, randomness, chaos, complexity, probability, scientific realism, computer simulations, modeling, scientific representation, reductionism, and the confirmation of scientific theories. Currently, his work focuses on predictability in climate change, the foundations of statistical mechanics, and the nature of scientific models and theories. He has been recognized for his contributions, receiving the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In addition to his role at LSE, he has held visiting appointments at several prestigious institutions including the Munich Centre for Mathematical Philosophy, the University of Western Ontario, the University of Utrecht, the University of Sydney, and the University of Barcelona. He also serves on editorial advisory boards and is an associate editor for the British Journal for Philosophy of Science, and he is a member of the steering committee for the European Philosophy of Science Association.
