Inspired by Nature’s evolutionary synthetic tools, Orru seeks efficient synthetic methodologies that outperform biological processes while leveraging a broad range of functionalities available in bio-based building blocks. His main research topics include Cascade Syntheses, Sustainable Catalysis, Multicomponent Reactions, Heterocycles, and Advanced Functional Materials. Currently, he is elaborating research lines on one-pot cascade syntheses based on state-of-the-art multicomponent reaction chemistry using bio-based building blocks to access high-added-value active pharmaceutical ingredients and advanced functional materials. He specializes in Organic Chemistry, Bio-based Building Blocks, Natural Products, Organic Synthesis, Catalysis, and Heterocycles.
