Biography

Romano V.A. Orru focuses on fundamental Organic Chemistry by utilizing molecules and materials that Nature provides. For the past 20 years, his group has delivered clean, atom-and step-efficient one-pot syntheses for the sustainable production of diverse and structurally complex organic molecules tailored for higher added-value materials, medicines, and catalysts. Inspired by Nature’s evolutionary synthetic tools, Orru seeks efficient synthetic methodologies that outperform biological processes while leveraging a broad range of functionalities available in bio-based building blocks. His main research topics include Cascade Syntheses, Sustainable Catalysis, Multicomponent Reactions, Heterocycles, and Advanced Functional Materials. Currently, he is elaborating research lines on one-pot cascade syntheses based on state-of-the-art multicomponent reaction chemistry using bio-based building blocks to access high-added-value active pharmaceutical ingredients and advanced functional materials. He specializes in Organic Chemistry, Bio-based Building Blocks, Natural Products, Organic Synthesis, Catalysis, and Heterocycles.
