Biography

Romy Eskens is an Assistant Professor at the Ethics Institute of Utrecht University, with a research focus on the intersection of normative ethics, moral psychology, and social-political philosophy. Her work examines concepts related to ethics of the mind, personal relationships, moral address, and moral equality, particularly the concept of partiality. She joined the Ethics Institute in January 2023 after completing a postdoctoral research position at Stockholm University. Eskens received her PhD in June 2022 and had previously obtained a Bachelor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford, along with Bachelor degrees in Philosophy and History from Utrecht University. From January 2026 to 2028, she will be working on a research project entitled 'The Guilty Mind', which is funded by the NWO Veni Talent Programme. This project aims to explore what individuals morally owe in terms of acting rightly, as well as believing, thinking, and feeling 'rightly'.
