Biography

Ron Kerr is a Senior Lecturer in International Management at the University of Edinburgh Business School. He earned his MA in Applied Linguistics from Lancaster University in 1993 and has a PhD focused on critical discourse analysis. His academic career includes positions at the British Council, Lancaster University, Open University, and Newcastle University Business School, with his appointment at Edinburgh starting in September 2014. His research interests center on the application of Pierre Bourdieu's theories to management studies, particularly examining the symbolic power and symbolic violence in organizations. Notably, his research has addressed leadership failures in corporate culture in the context of the global financial crisis. He has co-convened numerous academic events regarding critical management studies and has presented findings at various prestigious conferences. Currently, Kerr is collaborating on studies focusing on political leadership, especially concerning women's political leadership in Scotland.
