Biography

RH Baxendale is a physiologist with a strong interest in human physiology and extensive experience in teaching many aspects of physiology to undergraduates in the Life Sciences School of Medicine. He contributes to postgraduate taught courses, with a focus on course design and management. Currently, he serves as the External Examiner for Human Health and Disease at Trinity College Dublin, and as an external examiner at the Universities of Newcastle and Dundee. A fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and a member of the Physiological Society, he has played a significant role in modernizing and further developing teaching and student experiences in popular group subjects such as Anatomy, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, and Physiology in Sports Science. Under his guidance, new and broader-ranging Human Biology programmes were introduced in 2014, allowing for further specialisations in joint honours degrees. The performance of these courses has been outstanding, attracting large numbers of students and achieving high scores in NSS university league tables. Notably, in 2018, the Complete University Guide rated Pharmacology, Physiology, and Sports Sciences 3rd in the UK, while Anatomy and Physiology courses were rated 4th. Dr. Baxendale also supervises a range of postgraduate research projects, successfully delivering research projects overseas and maintaining collaborations with graduates.
