Ronald C. Cohen attended Wesleyan University where he received a BA with high honors in 1985. He then attended graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, and received his Ph.D. under the supervision of Richard Saykally in 1991. From 1991 to 1996, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow Research Associate at Harvard University with James G. Anderson. Cohen has received the NASA Group Achievement Award in 2005, Hellman Family Faculty Fund award in 1999, and the Regents Junior Faculty Fellowship in 1998. He is an editor for the open-access journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics. His research areas include Atmospheric Chemistry, focusing on the effects of human activity on the Earth's atmosphere, and interactions within the biosphere. His current research emphasizes the role of nitrogen oxides and isotopes of water in understanding chemical composition and predicting future atmospheric changes.
