Dr. Ronald Hanson

Biography

Ronald Hanson earned a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Applied Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Science and Engineering from the University of Toronto. He received the G.N. Patterson Award for his contributions in the field. Before joining York University, Dr. Hanson worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Southampton in the UK and the University of Toronto, while also consulting for the industry as an aerodynamicist at Cervelo Cycles in Toronto. His research mainly adopts an experimental approach, focusing on controlling flow turbulence with the underlying motivation of improving performance in fluid and aerodynamic reliant applications, such as in aircraft and racing bicycles. Specifically, his research explores the underlying physics of fluid dynamic phenomena and the application of passive and active control strategies for drag reduction. His work emphasizes the ability to sense and manipulate flow, forming a close nexus at the heart of his research interests.
