Biography

Ronel Wasserman is a lecturer in English linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. His main area of expertise is language contact and change, focusing on the sociolinguistic factors that foster the exchange of lexico-grammatical features among languages and their varieties. He teaches courses related to World Englishes, the history of English, language variation and change, phonetics, morphology, stylistics, and rhetoric, as well as academic and creative writing. In addition to his role in the Department of English, he regularly teaches within the Department of Linguistics in the Pre-Master programme at the College of Humanities. His research interests include historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and corpus linguistics, and he is affiliated with the UPSET (Understanding Processing Language Complex Settings) research entity at North-West University.
