Biography

Ronglih Liao is a renowned professor in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University, where he also serves as co-director of the Stanford Cardiac Amyloid Center. His research primarily focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of heart failure and developing novel treatments to combat this process. Liao's laboratory has made significant contributions to the study of amyloid light chain (AL) cardiomyopathy, a rare and fatal form of cardiovascular disease. His work has defined the underlying pathophysiologic basis of AL cardiomyopathy and has raised new avenues for treatment strategies. In addition to AL cardiomyopathy, his research efforts have expanded to include transthyretin (ATTR) cardiac amyloidosis, with a goal of revealing novel therapeutic strategies for patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Liao's research has demonstrated the therapeutic potential of primitive muscle cells delivered to injured hearts and has played a key role in pioneering cell-based therapy trials. As an educator, he has lectured extensively and has mentored many scientists, contributing significantly to the advancement of scientific knowledge in cardiovascular medicine.
