Biography

Roni Rosenfeld is a Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. With a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Tel Aviv University, and a PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon, Roni has been instrumental in the fields of machine learning and language technologies since 1997. He has taught thousands of undergraduate and graduate students and has mentored numerous postdoctoral and PhD students. From 2018 to 2024, he served as the head of the Machine Learning Department. His research focuses on forecasting epidemics, where he co-leads the Delphi Research Group, a prominent initiative in epidemic forecasting technology in the U.S. Roni's past work includes advancements in statistical language modeling, speech recognition, and the development of technologies for socio-economic development. He has published around 150 scientific articles and has received multiple awards for teaching and research excellence.
