Dr. Rory Chen

Biography

Rory Chen is a health data scientist specializing in data infrastructure that underpins dementia research. He leads the Dementias Platform Australia (DPAU) initiative at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), dedicated to advancing the FAIR principles—making research data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. His work occurs at the nexus of data management, statistical analysis, and the design of scalable, reproducible data workflows. Proficient in R, Python, SAS, SQL, and REDCap, Rory also has experience in cloud computing with AWS. He brings strong technical expertise to the research data lifecycle. Rory leads the DPAU team using agile project management methodologies and contributes to the broader data science community through active roles in R-Ladies Sydney and the UNSW CodeRs Committee. With over nine years of experience working with large, complex datasets, his career spans both academic and public health settings, including roles at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), UNSW, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
