Rory Lindsay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on Buddhist Studies, particularly Tibetan religions, Buddhist canons, Tantric Buddhism, funerary rituals, material culture, death and dying, and Tibetan historical biographical literature. He explores the intersection of agency—human, nonhuman, and material—in Kunrik funerary practices as described in traditional ritual manuals. His forthcoming book, 'Saving Dead: Tibetan Funerary Rituals Tradition Sarvadurgatipariśodhana Tantra', published by Wiener Studien zur Tibetologie und Buddhismuskunde, examines these practices within a historical context. Lindsay has coauthored a book on the life writings of the twentieth-century Tibetan master Drayab Lodrö Gyaltsen with scholar Khenpo Tashi Dorje. He has also taught Classical Tibetan language and served as a visiting scholar in the Buddhist Texts Translation Initiative at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Lindsay holds a PhD from Harvard University and both an MA and BA from the University of Toronto.
