Biography

Rory Stewart is a Professor of Practice in Grand Strategy at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. He previously served as the UK Secretary of State for International Development and has held several significant positions including membership on the National Security Council and Minister of State for Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Stewart has also been a Minister of State for Prisons and Probation and Minister of State for the Environment, as well as Chair of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee. He founded and ran the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Afghanistan and was the Director of the Carr Centre at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Beyond his academic roles, Stewart is co-presenter of the UK’s leading podcast, "The Rest Is Politics," and has authored five international bestsellers. He has presented BBC television documentaries and has written numerous articles for prestigious journals such as the New York Review of Books and the London Review of Books. His contributions have earned him the Order of the British Empire for his work in Iraq, alongside various international medals and honors, and he holds several honorary doctorates. At Yale, Rory teaches in the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy.
