Biography

Rosalea Monacella is a Design Critic in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. As a registered Landscape Architect, she has undertaken research in various cities worldwide, developing urban masterplans for locations in China, the USA, South America, Europe, and Australia. Monacella explores the design nexus between urban and natural environments and has been a recipient of numerous national and international awards and grants that relate to practice-based research. She is a co-founder of the OUTR Research Lab at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Her expertise revolves around transitioning urban environments and indexing the shifting dynamics of resource flows to inform contemporary landscape architecture within cities. Her research integrates complex urban issues with advanced digital modeling techniques to create sustainable urban futures. In addition to her academic work, Monacella has served as the chief editor of Kerb Journal, which has become a significant publication within the discipline, engaging with the challenges and discourse of landscape architecture. She holds a PhD from RMIT University, a Masters in Landscape Urbanism from the AA School in London, and a Bachelor of Architecture from RMIT University.
