Biography

Rose McDermott is the David Mariana Fisher University Professor of International Relations at Brown University and Director of the Watson Postdoctoral Program. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and works in the field of political psychology. McDermott holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and a Master's degree in Experimental Social Psychology from Stanford University. She has previously taught at Cornell University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. McDermott has held prestigious fellowships at various institutions, including the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and the Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard University. She has authored six books and co-edited several volumes, along with writing over a hundred academic articles across a variety of disciplines. Her research focuses on a wide range of topics, including American foreign defense policy, gender, social identity, and emotion in decision-making. Currently, she is engaged in large survey experiments examining attitudes toward gender inequality in 20 countries and other projects related to nuclear weapons and leadership stability.
