Dr. Roshni Chowdhury

Biography

Roshni Roy Chowdhury, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. She completed her PhD in Immunology at Indiana State University and pursued postdoctoral training at Stanford University under the guidance of Professor Yueh-hsiu Chien. Dr. Chowdhury's research focuses on the immunopathogenic processes underlying tuberculosis infection, food allergies, and cardiovascular disease. As an independent investigator, her goal is to employ integrative systems approaches to understand the biology of tissue-localized immunity and address unmet clinical needs associated with tissue pathologies. Her specific interests include unconventional lymphocytes such as CD4-CD8- DN alpha beta T cells, CD8+ gamma delta T cells, and CD5+ B cells, along with the functional consequences of their tissue localizations in humans. Dr. Chowdhury's work contributes significant insights into the roles of NK-like CD8+ T cells in the context of persistent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. She has published numerous studies, including investigations into immune responses in various contexts, such as mucosal immunotherapy and host immune responses related to Staphylococcus aureus infections.
