Dr. Rosie Mayston

Biography

Rosie Mayston is a Senior Lecturer in Global Mental Health at King's College London. She is a mixed-methods researcher with a background in anthropology and demography. Her research focuses on mental health and chronic physical illness among individuals living in low and middle-income countries. Rosie completed her PhD in psychiatric epidemiology, which focused on HIV and common mental disorders in Goa, India. She has developed a keen interest in the broader issues of chronic illness and mental health, particularly concerning comorbidity and the necessary systems to manage and treat these effectively to achieve positive health outcomes. Rosie is involved in various projects that emphasize mental health in low and middle-income countries, with a particular focus on the older population. She is also a member of the 10/66 Dementia Research Group, which explores the social aspects of aging. Her work has received significant attention and funding, including a major project aimed at addressing the needs of people experiencing homelessness and severe mental illness in countries like Ethiopia, Ghana, and Kenya.
