Roslyn M. Compton completed undergraduate nursing degrees at the University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury, Australia (DipHScN’91, BHScN’92), master’s degree from the University of New England, Australia (GDAET’05, MEd (Adult)’06), and a PhD from the University of Alberta (PhD’14). She holds the Canadian Nurses Association Gerontological Nursing Certification since 2019. Compton joined the College of Nursing in 2017, after a decade of teaching nursing at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Before her teaching career, she had an extensive background in rural, remote, and community nursing in Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Canada, emphasizing family and school health. Her research focuses on older adults and recognizes the importance of understanding their experiences through the lens of identity and the social, cultural, and institutional narratives they live within. Her research interests include older adults, aging-in-place, interdependence, narrative gerontology, interprofessional practice, and narrative care. Compton uses a patient-oriented research approach to understand the experiences of older adults and their families concerning quality of life, interprofessional care, and family presence. She is currently accepting graduate and undergraduate learners and has initiated several projects and networks aimed at improving care for older adults both nationally and internationally.
