Biography

Associate Professor Ross Hyams holds a B.A., LL.B, and LL.M and is a practicing solicitor at Monash University's Faculty of Law, where he has been teaching since 1990. He has served as the Director of Work Integrated Learning and has played a significant role in the Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service as Coordinator between 1990 and 2005 and as Director of the Springvale Monash Legal Service. His legal practice experience includes working at a commercial legal firm from 1987 to 1990. Hyams is also a co-author of 'Non-Adversarial Justice' and 'Practical Legal Skills', published by Federation Press and Oxford University Press, respectively. His research interests center around Family Law, Legal Education, and Clinical Legal Practice, with a commitment to enhancing assessment strategies in legal education. He teaches several subjects, including Foundations of Law and Professional Practice, and is actively involved in initiatives related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. His contributions to legal education have been recognized through various awards, including the Law Institute of Victoria President's Inaugural Community Lawyers' Award in 2004 and the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Industry Community Education Programs in 2021.
