Biography

Ross Margitza is a distinguished pianist, trumpeter, composer, arranger, and educator based in Austin, Texas. He began his musical journey in Detroit, Michigan, inspired by his father and grandfather who were professional pianists. He started playing the piano at age six and the trumpet at age ten. Influenced by Oscar Peterson's recording of 'West Side Story', Ross pursued a career in jazz. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University, a Master of Music from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. He currently serves as a Lecturer and is the Jazz Studies/Jazz Piano Coordinator at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin, where he teaches courses in applied jazz piano and jazz improvisation.
