Rouven Porz is the head of the Clinical Ethics Unit at University Hospital Bern (Inselgruppe AG). He is also the president of the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics (EACME) and has held guest researcher positions at the Medical Faculty of the Free University of Amsterdam and the University of Cluj-Napoca in Romania. Trained as a biologist, he completed additional master's studies in philosophy and educational theory at the University of Saarbrücken in Germany. He earned his PhD and was involved in post-doctoral projects at the University of Basel in Switzerland, where he conducted empirical research in bioethics, primarily focusing on patients’ perspectives in the fields of genetic testing, reproductive medicine, and stem cell research. Rouven has been awarded visiting scholarships in Maastricht (The Netherlands), Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), Geneva (Brocher Foundation, Switzerland), and Amsterdam (The Netherlands). His current work addresses the implementation of clinical ethics in Swiss healthcare institutions, as well as the methodological issues related to clinical ethics. He teaches courses in the Biomedical Engineering Master's program, focusing on Ethics in Biomedical Engineering.
