Biography

Rovel Sequeira is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s Gender Studies and the Department of English at the University of Michigan. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania and has received a graduate certificate in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. His research focuses on connected histories of sexuality, gender, race, and empire in modern India, with a critical eye on cultural and literary critiques. His academic contributions have been featured in numerous interdisciplinary journals and volumes, including GLQ, History of Human Sciences, and Signs. Currently on scholarly leave, Sequeira is completing a book manuscript titled "Empire Deviants: Global Sexology and the Racial Grammar of Sex in Colonial India," which reevaluates the historiography of modern sexual science through the lens of colonial India.
