Rowena Bull is a research scientist with expertise in immunovirology, based in the School of Medical Sciences and the Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity at the University of New South Wales. She obtained her PhD in 2008 for internationally recognized work on RNA viruses. Bull is currently a tenured academic and NHMRC Investigator from 2021 to 2025, focusing on understanding how to train the immune response to tackle genomically diverse RNA viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, hepatitis C, dengue, and Influenza. She led the development of new high-throughput generation sequencing tools to study RNA viruses and host immune responses. Bull has contributed significantly to the field by developing methods for isolating and characterizing the entire transcriptome of antigen-receptor virus-specific single B cells, providing unique insights into the mechanisms of protection against hepatitis C reinfection. She has been involved in advising on viral infection control policies and was commissioned to provide advice on HTLV-1 in Japan in November 2019.
