Dr. Roxanne Euben

Biography

Roxanne L. Euben is a political theorist whose research has pioneered a new area of inquiry referred to as comparative political theory. Her work encompasses the understanding of political theory as coextensive with Euro-American canonical texts, integrating various intellectual traditions and practices from history, anthropology, and religious studies. With special expertise in Islamic and Euro-American political thought, Euben's scholarship addresses themes such as humiliation, masculinity, Muslim cosmopolitanism, jihad, martyrdom, political action, travel, translation, and the nature and limits of rationalism. Euben authored several influential works, including 'Driven to Their Knees: Humiliation in Contemporary Politics' and 'Journeys to the Shore: Muslim Western Travelers in Search of Knowledge'. Her research has been published in a wide array of scholarly journals. Euben has received numerous honors including fellowships from the John S. Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. She has also taught at prestigious institutions like Wellesley College and the University of South Carolina.
