Biography

Roxanne Panchasi is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Simon Fraser University. She was born in Toronto and raised in Montreal, where she completed her BA in History at Concordia University in 1993. Subsequently, she entered the PhD program in History at Rutgers University, spending significant time in Paris. In 2001, she joined the faculty at Simon Fraser University and completed her doctoral dissertation in 2002. Her research interests focus on the cultural and political implications of France's nuclear bomb, particularly its legacies in Algeria and French Polynesia from the mid-20th century to the 1990s. She is the founder of the New Books in French Studies podcast and became a coeditor for the Journal of Western Society for French History in 2022. Throughout her career, Panchasi has published various articles and authored a significant book on French culture and anticipation in the context of war. She is recognized for her efforts in scholarly engagement and has received multiple awards including the 2023 Visiting International Fellowship from the Society for French Studies.
