Biography

Roxana Carare qualified in Medicine from Bucharest in 1994. After completing basic clinical training, she became fascinated by anatomy and completed her PhD in neuropathology in 2006 at the University of Southampton, UK. She has gained international recognition for her interdisciplinary research, which focuses on drug delivery to the brain and the development of new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, having published over 120 peer-reviewed publications in this field. Roxana is a member of the UK Medical Research Council Dementia Platform UK and sits on the Vascular Experimental Medicine committee for the UK government’s advisory committee regarding the effects of pollution on the brain. Additionally, she has served as a European member of the American NIH strategy committee for dementia funding. Roxana has won several prestigious awards, including the Dementia Research Leader Award from Alzheimer’s Society UK. She has held significant roles such as Co-Chair of the International Alliance of Women Alzheimer’s Researchers and Vice-Chair of the Vascular Professional Interest Area of the Alzheimer’s Association. Furthermore, she co-leads the Scientific Committee for Vas-Cog and serves as Secretary for the British Neuropathological Society, along with participating in various international research funding boards. Roxana is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology in Targu Mures, Romania, where she co-founded the British-Romanian Academic Institute of Neuroscience.
