Biography

Roy Cross is a Professor of Film Production at Concordia University, where he serves as the Graduate Program Director for the MFA Cinematic Arts. He earned his BFA in Film Video Production from the University of Regina in 1990 and his MFA in Studio Arts with a focus on Film Production from Concordia in 1998. His films have been showcased in festivals worldwide, with notable industry support from various funding bodies, including the National Film Board of Canada and Telefilm Canada. Roy is known for his active role in Montreal's Anglophone Improv Theatre scene and is currently training for a half-Ironman competition scheduled for 2026. His work includes an array of projects such as low-budget and independent films, with a particular interest in sustainable film processing methods. He received the Faculty of Fine Arts Distinguished Teaching Award in 2015, recognizing his commitment to creative teaching practices that empower student exploration. Roy is currently engaged in research focused on low-toxic photochemical processes at his lab, LabCaf, and is in the post-production phase of a short fiction film titled 'Wondrous Blue.'
