Dr. Roy Goode

Biography

Roy Goode, CBE, QC, LL B 1954, LL D (Lond) 1976, DCL (Oxon) 2006, FBA, 1988, FRSA 1990, is an Emeritus Professor of Law at St John's College, University of Oxford. He was recognized for his services to academic law when he was knighted in 2000. His academic journey includes being the Crowther Professor of Credit and Commercial Law and a founder director of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary College, where he also served as Dean of the Faculty of Law. Goode has held numerous visiting professorships and honors at various esteemed institutions worldwide, including Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. His notable contributions to law extend to various international committees, such as the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, and as a member of the Commission on European Contract Law. His research interests span Commercial Law, Human Rights Law, and Transnational Commercial Law. Additionally, he has been heavily involved in academic projects, including the Cape Town Convention Academic Project. Goode continues to lead and contribute to significant discussions and seminars in the field, with his final seminar scheduled for 30 September 2024.
