Biography

Roy van der Meel is an Associate Professor in Precision Medicine at Eindhoven University of Technology, specifically within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research is primarily focused on the development of RNA-based nanotherapeutics to regulate immune responses in a highly precise manner. Roy earned a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences Drug Innovation from Utrecht University in 2009. He conducted his doctoral research at Utrecht University in the Pharmaceutics Department under the supervision of notable figures such as Wim Hennink, Gert Storm, Robbert Jan Kok, and Raymond Schiffelers, concentrating on the advancement of nanomedicines to inhibit tumor growth and angiogenesis, culminating in a Ph.D. degree in 2013. After obtaining Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action funding from the European Commission and a Veni grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO), Roy engaged in postdoctoral research in the labs of Raymond Schiffelers at the University Medical Center Utrecht and Pieter Cullis at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 2019, he joined TU/e as an Assistant Professor in Precision Medicine and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2025. His work has garnered support from a NWO Vidi grant in 2022 and an ERC Consolidator grant for 2025.
