Biography

Roydon Fraser is the Teaching Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He leads investigations in the Green Intelligent Transportation Systems Group. Professor Fraser has served as the past-president of the University of Waterloo Faculty Association and is a life member of the Sandford Fleming Foundation. He also contributes as a founding board member of Engineers Without Borders and serves as a Councillor for Professional Engineers Ontario. His research primarily concentrates on energy conversion systems, specifically the characterization of spark ignition engine combustion, integration and control of alternative fuels in powertrains, and the application of energy law thermodynamics in optimizing complex thermodynamic systems. He possesses specialized knowledge in turbulent combustion and non-intrusive diagnostic techniques applied to internal combustion engines, alongside alternative fuel vehicle development, particularly with natural gas, ethanol, and hydrogen fuels for hybrid vehicles. Professor Fraser's extensive experience is reflected in his numerous contributions to fire safety engineering and life cycle analysis.
