Dr. Ruard Ganzevoort

Biography

Ruard Ganzevoort is a full professor at the International Institute of Social Studies, part of Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he focuses on the intersection of lived religion and development studies. With a background in the study of religion, he integrates theology, religious studies, and social sciences in his work. His research examines how individuals shape their relationships with the sacred and engage with various traditions. Throughout his academic career, he has published on topics such as narrative approaches, trauma, sexuality, popular culture, and societal challenges. Ganzevoort has also held roles in politics and the church, and he currently serves as the Dean of the International Institute of Social Studies, emphasizing the goal of making the institute a leading center in development studies. His work seeks to address fundamental questions about differences, values, and effective social action.
