Ruben D. Costa's research spans the design, preparation, and optimization of biogenic functional materials and their application in optoelectronic devices. His long-term goal is to progress in the field of sustainable optoelectronics. He completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Valencia in Spain in 2006 and earned his Ph.D. from the same institution in 2010, receiving both national and international awards. From 2011 to 2013, he was a Humboldt Fellow at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he worked on nanocarbon-based solar cells. In 2014, he became a Liebig Fellow and headed the Hybrid Optoelectronic Materials Devices Lab at FAU. In 2017, he moved to IMDEA Materials in Spain and later expanded his academic career as an Associate Professor at Waseda University in Japan in 2018. Costa has made over 180 scientific contributions and received more than 35 awards and fellowships throughout his career. In 2020, he became a full Professor of Biogenic Functional Materials at the Technical University of Munich.
