Biography

Rüdiger Campe is a Professor of Comparative Literature and Germanic Languages and Literatures at Yale University. He is currently finishing a book-length study on the German scientist philosopher Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, known for his 'Sudelbücher' or waste books. His teaching includes a graduate course on Robert Musil and an undergraduate course on German novels since 1945. Prior to his position at Yale, he held a professorship in German at Johns Hopkins University for six years. His research areas encompass Rhetoric, Aesthetics, Literature Science, Law Literature, Baroque Theater, and the Modern Novel. He has published significant works including “The Profound Confirmation of Existence Dissonance,” which examines figures such as Émile Boutroux and Georg Simmel in connection with Lukács’s theory of the novel. He has also contributed to various literary critiques such as the New German Critique and the Deutsche Vierteljahresschrift für Literaturwissenschaft und Geistesgeschichte.
