Biography

Rudolf Jaenisch is a professor in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a core member of the Whitehead Institute and a member of the Institute of Medicine. His research focuses on the use of pluripotent cells, including embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells, to study the genetic and epigenetic basis of human diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, autism, and cancer. He aims to understand the epigenetic regulation of gene expression in mammalian development and disease. Jaenisch studies how somatic cells can be reprogrammed to an embryonic pluripotent state and uses patient-specific pluripotent cells to investigate complex human diseases. His work holds great potential for regenerative medicine.
