Biography

Rudra Sil is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also serves as the Director of the Huntsman Program in International Studies & Business. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1996 and joined the faculty at Penn the same year. Sil's scholarly interests are broad and encompass areas such as Russian and post-communist studies, Asian studies, comparative labor politics, international development, and qualitative methodology. He has authored, coauthored, and coedited numerous significant works, including monographs like 'Managing ‘Modernity’: Work, Community, Authority in Late-Industrializing Japan and Russia' and 'Paradigms: Analytic Eclecticism in the Study of World Politics', both of which have received acclaim, including the CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title. Sil has published in various respected journals and is involved in discussions and symposia organized by the Comparative Politics section of the American Political Science Association. His current research includes a monograph titled 'Fate of a Superpower: Russia’s Troubled Search for Its Place in the Post-Cold War World.' Sil is also a recipient of several teaching awards, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in education at the university.
