Biography

Rufaro Chitsike completed Hematology specialty training in 2010 at WITS University, South Africa, and finished a Thrombosis Fellowship at McGill University in 2011. He serves as a Hematologist at the Health Sciences Centre, Eastern Health, in St John's, and he is the Director of the Eastern Health Thrombosis Service. Chitsike is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland & Labrador, where he is actively involved in research related to thrombosis and anticoagulation. He leads an organization called TANL (Thrombosis & Anticoagulation Newfoundland & Labrador) and hosts a bi-annual Thrombosis Conference. Chitsike is an active member of Thrombosis Canada and has served as an author on the clinical guide planning committee for the annual Thrombosis Canada Conference. He is also a member of the American Society of Hematology and the International Society on Hemostasis and Thrombosis. His contributions to education have been recognized with the Memorial University Outstanding Teacher Award in 2015 for Medical Student teaching in Thrombosis, as well as receiving the American Society of Hematology Abstract Merit Award in 2011 and the Ina Reinhardt Award in 2008 from the South African Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. His research work focuses on thrombosis.
