Biography

Rugang Lu is a Senior Teaching Fellow and the Chinese Coordinator in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Southampton. He studied for his BA in English Language and Literature at Shandong University in China, followed by an MA and PhD in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching from the University of Southampton. Additionally, he holds a Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from SOAS, University of London, and is a certified TCFL teacher by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) in China. He began teaching Chinese in Southampton in 2004 after nearly two decades as a lecturer and associate professor at Ningbo University in China. His primary research interests are in applied linguistics and language teaching, complemented by extensive knowledge of Chinese visual culture, as he is also a practicing artist in Chinese painting. Rugang is active in researching Multimodal Discourse Analysis, Semiological Approaches, Culture Studies, Intercultural Communication, and language teaching.
