I am a Professor at Massey University and a Rutherford Discovery Fellow for the Royal Society Te Apārangi. My research focuses on human behavior in disasters, evacuation modeling, and the integration of new digital technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, and Building Information Modelling (BIM). I teach courses on fire engineering, evacuation dynamics, and research methodologies. I also serve as an Associate Editor for several journals and participate as a grant reviewer for multiple international funding bodies. I have published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and received various awards for my contributions to the field, including the 2020 Massey Research Medal. My current research interests include evacuation during fire and earthquake emergencies, human behavior in disaster scenarios, and the application of serious games in training contexts. Over the past years, I have expanded my research to explore how digital tools can enhance safety practices in built environments.
