Biography

Rui Huang holds a BSc in Chemistry from Peking University, China, and a PhD from the University of Michigan, where she trained in protein NMR spectroscopy under the supervision of Prof. Ayyalusamy Ramamoorthy. Dr. Huang continued her postdoctoral research with a CIHR fellowship in Prof. Lewis Kay’s laboratory at the University of Toronto. In 2020, she joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph as an Assistant Professor. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of protein complexes, especially large protein assemblies, by employing advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques alongside structural biology tools, cryo-Electron Microscopy, and various biophysical and biochemical techniques. Key interests include mitochondrial protein degradation machines and AAA+ ATPases, crucial for maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis and executing cellular functions by remodeling protein substrates for proteolysis. Dr. Huang has received multiple research grants and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Biophysical Chemistry.
