Biography

Ruijun Li completed a Bachelor of Science in 1984 and a Master of Science in 1987 at Harbin Normal University, China. He has worked at the university level in research focusing on the introduction and domestication of wildflowers, biodiversity, and medicinal plants, particularly within the genera Vicia and Bupleurum. Over his career, he has published more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals in both Chinese and English. In 1998, he received a Royal Society Fellowship in the UK for a one-year research project at the University of Wales Aberystwyth, where he analyzed the relationships between tetraploid Vicia and its diploid relatives using molecular cytogenetic techniques. In 2000, he relocated to Australia and completed his PhD in Genetics and Breeding of Ornamental Plants at the University of Sydney in 2005. Currently, he is a Research Fellow at the Plant Breeding Institute, focusing on innovation and improvement in flowering ornamentals for the global market. His expertise includes interspecific hybridization, embryo rescue techniques, sexual polyploidization, and specific molecular marker techniques, contributing to crop breeding projects involving various ornamental species.
