Biography

Rumi Chunara's research develops computational statistical approaches for acquiring and integrating data to improve population-level public health. Her work focuses on the design and development of data mining and machine learning methods to address public health challenges, fairness, and the ethical use of data algorithms embedded in social systems. At NYU, she leads the Chunara Lab, which is dedicated to developing new computational statistical methods for data mining, natural language processing, and spatio-temporal analyses in population health studies. Dr. Chunara has held key positions as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Instructor at the HealthMap Children's Hospital Informatics Program at Harvard Medical School and has earned her PhD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences Technology.
