Biography

Ruochen Lu is an Assistant Professor and Texas ECE Early Career Fellow at the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), specifically advancing chip-scale acoustic electromagnetic components and microwave signal processing. His group develops thin-film piezoelectric platforms for RF front-end microsystems that push operating frequency and transduction efficiency while tightly integrating acoustics with electronics. Complementary research areas include ultrasound transducers, multiphysics microsystems that couple acoustics, optics, and magnetics, and applications in engineered nonlinearity/nonreciprocity, biomedical fields, quantum mechanics, and power conversion. He has received multiple awards including the IEEE MTT-S Microwave Award in 2022 and the IEEE Ultrasonics Early Career Investigator Award in 2024, along with various Student Paper Awards for his students at esteemed conferences. He has also been honored with the Junior Faculty Excellence Teaching Award in 2024 by the University of Texas at Austin. Ruochen serves as an associate editor for multiple prestigious journals including the IEEE Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems and IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control.
