Biography

Rupak Shivakoti's research focuses on the role of immune metabolic factors in health outcomes. His ongoing observational and interventional studies assess the impact of inflammation, nutrition, and the microbiome on outcomes related to HIV, tuberculosis, and maternal-child health. His work investigates the increasing convergence of infectious and chronic diseases, particularly regarding immune metabolic factors and their extension to cardio-metabolic disease outcomes, such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. He is the Principal Investigator of multiple NIH-funded projects addressing these topics in diverse international settings, including India, South Africa, and Uganda.
