Dr. Russell Dawe is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. He joined the Discipline of Family Medicine as an Assistant Professor in 2016 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. Dr. Dawe's clinical practice is based at the Family Medicine Clinic of the Health Sciences Centre, where he serves as a Palliative Care consultant for the L.A. Miller Centre’s Palliative Care Program. He has held various leadership roles since joining the faculty, including founding Program Director of Memorial's Care for Underserved Populations Enhanced Skills Program from 2016 to 2020. In this capacity, he collaborated with Indigenous partners in Sheshatshiu, Labrador, and established international partnerships in Nepal and Uganda. Dr. Dawe served as Social Accountability Lead for the Discipline of Family Medicine from 2018 to 2019 and was co-chair of the Social Accountability Project Team under the Destination Excellence strategic plan from 2018 to 2021. Currently, he is the Program Director for the Family Medicine Residency Program, overseeing a comprehensive training program that includes rural and distributed Family Medicine education across Newfoundland, Labrador, and Nunavut. His scholarly interests include program evaluation, medical education, Indigenous health, and health equity. He has mentored medical students on various research projects, facilitating their conference presentations and publications.
