Biography

Professor Russell Gentry is a structural engineer and building materials researcher whose work emphasizes the technical performance aspects of building materials and systems. His research includes exploring mature building material systems as well as ongoing projects in wood, concrete, masonry, and the use of emerging materials like fiber-reinforced polymers and bio-based residues. Dr. Gentry's work addresses critical technical aspects such as structural mechanical performance, weathering durability, constructability, material component representation issues, and environmental impacts. At Georgia Tech, he teaches courses in structural materials systems, fabrication, and the environmental impacts of construction and building energy. His research has received funding from prominent organizations including the National Science Foundation, the Federal Highway Administration, the National Concrete Masonry Association, and the American Institute of Architects. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Gentry serves as Co-Chair of the ASTM Committee D30.05 on Composite Materials – Structural Test Methods and is on the editorial board of the ASCE Journal of Composites for Construction.
