Biography

Russell Hancock is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Joint Venture Silicon Valley, a position he has held since 2003. Under his leadership, the organization has grown significantly, establishing a potent board and creating strategic partnerships. He is recognized as a civic leader and institution builder, emphasizing regionalism and collaboration. Hancock founded the Institute for Regional Studies and initiated the annual State of the Valley conference, which draws over 1,500 leaders for discussions on challenges and opportunities in the Silicon Valley. In his previous role as Vice President of the Bay Area Council, he led successful campaigns to extend BART to San Francisco Airport and create the Bay Area Water Transit Authority. An alumnus of Harvard and Stanford, where he received his Ph.D. in political science, Hancock has also taught in the Public Policy Program at Stanford. He has directed the Shorenstein Forum for Asia-Pacific Studies since 2000, fostering international dialogue and corporate programs. In addition to his professional work, Hancock is a concert pianist, performing across the nation and co-founding The Saint Michael Trio.
